Moderated posts
We only have one area on the entire site where we require posts to be moderated before they are publicly displayed to everyone. The one area we require posts to be moderated first is the Help section. The reasoning as to why we have posts on approval there is because there are times where users are posting there because they are emotionally unstable. We don't want some troll (especially because we also allow guest posting there) to come on and write a comment that will provoke someone when they're having a bad time in life. Not everyone may be asking for help because they're having a hard time in life, but a lot of people are, and we don't want some troll to have a pathetic laugh at someone's expense. This is the reason as to why posts are moderated in the Help section. The staff can sift through the posts and delete the garbage ones before anyone has a chance to see them.
With all that being said, we do moderate posts if a user meets a certain criteria. If you're a user who hasn't made five posts yet and your post contains some type of link or URL, it will have to be moderated. Very few people fall into this category though, so it's almost not worth mentioning. We mainly moderate the first 5 posts that have any link in them to combat against spam. It's common for users to sign up and spam the forum with advertisements (sometimes these advertisements also act as scams). We don't want anyone to see or fall for scams or advertisements. If any type of spammer joins the forum, the first post(s) they make are going to be advertising their product. Most regular users don't post a URL within the first five posts anyway, so we get to catch a lot of spammers and a lot of users who advertise other websites. It's a win-win, really!
