Note that pretty much every character in MK7 is very good, and if your favorite character is in the low tier, it doesn't mean the character is bad, it just has the least advantages over the rest of the cast.

Godly Tier:

Metal Mario (The most broken character, having the same stats as a heavyweight and having a medium size frame, giving you a lot of wiggle room to blow out the competition.)

Top Tier:

Mid-lightweights [Peach, Daisy, Yoshi] (Although one of the slowest on land, have the fastest water speeds and can handle pretty much anything. Only real disadvantage is weight.)

Middle Weights [Mario, Luigi, Mii] (The two Mario Bros and the Mii are the two characters with no weaknesses whatsoever. Since this game has a lot of room for mistakes, you can be sure you can pull in a good amount of wins with these characters, even on Metal Mario's worst nightmare: Wario Shipyard.)

High Tier:

Lightweights [Koopa, Toad, Lakitu, Shy Guy] (Sacrifices land speed and weight for better acceleration and a smaller frame vs the Mid-lightweights. Very good characters to pick up starting your competitive career.)

Middle Tier:

Heavyweights [Bowser, Wario, Honey Queen] (Fastest characters, but are very much outclassed by Metal Mario)

Low Tier:

Cruiser Weight [DK, Rosalina, Wiggler] (Yeah yeah yeah, Rosalina is your waifu, deal with the fact she's low tier. Have lower speeds than the heavyweights, lower weight, and not better handling.)

You do not have to agree with my tier list, use what you want. This is mainly where each character stands in competitive play.

Each of the character's stats are here.

In my opinion, Wario goes into the Top Tier.

The problem with Heavyweights (and I could say Metal Mario too) is that certain courses are completely unplayable for each of them (i.e. Cheep Cheep Lagoon and Wario Shipyard). Every character is very well balanced (besides Metal Mario) and have certain weaknesses and strengths. If you used Yoshi on Wario Shipyard versus Wario, chances are Yoshi will have quite the advantage, regardless of their land speed. Yoshi can handle pretty much any course, whereas Wario is just stuck in the water left to drown on certain maps.

Then I don't really see the difference between Lakitu and Wario, except the weight.

Wario has almost no acceleration, unlike Lakitu, which has a ton of acceleration. Wario is only good on land, where Lakitu can somewhat do well on land because it has the massive acceleration. Wario also has a much larger frame, making very easy to screw him over with items, not to mention Lakitu also has max water speed.

Character stats are added to the main post to get a better idea why they were placed in each spot.
