Maybe this is just me, but it seems like CTGP isn't really all that popular at all anymore. Recently it seems a bit more popular, but nothing compared to what it used to be. Now obviously there are fewer people playing Wiimmfi than there were people playing Nintendo WFC, but still, the ratio of people who play normal races to people who play CTGP isn't quite right. Why do you think this is? Is it indeed because of fewer people playing on Wiimmfi compared to Nintendo WFC? Is it because people have gotten used to CTGP and the charm factor isn't there anymore? Or do you possibly even have your own reason? Personally I think a little part of it is the obvious factor that not many people are playing Wiimmfi compared to Nintendo WFC. But I think the main factor to attribute here is the fact that CTGP has lost its wow factor. Sure, new tracks are added and tracks are updated from time to time, but it's not as cool of a thing as it once was. I'm interested in hearing what you guys think though!

There's still some people/clans that play CT's only or CT's and regs but I think it's so much easier to play regs because by now you already have every single strat memorized and it's just a natural "flow" to do those same tracks over and over again, whereas with CT's it's gotten to a point where the tracks don't interest people as much and is so much harder to learn all of them perfectly. Plus there's more competition on regular tracks anyway.

(The amount people using Wiimmfi is already implied in this post, therefore I won't mention it)

Casually, I can agree with you Azula, CTGP lost all its charm (which will most likely be renewed with the upcoming update and then get lost again).
On the other side, people who care about being good/improving at CTs are still active and even more compared to before (me and other people in my clan for example started playing them a lot, not really in CTWWs but in TTs and wars).

Because of people like you

Probably because most people don't enjoy CTs and don't know the tracks, and MKW is just fading in general. So less people playing = less people that like CTs, meaning there aren't enough people to make a decently sized room at any given time.

All three of you bring up great points that I agree with!

There is probably another reason that CTGP is losing population because of the latest update, I think.

Well, I certainly don't think it's making CTGP more popular by any means. ;)

We're getting older tho... Nintendo isn't really for adult people... Also with working on jobs etc. you haven't so much time to play.
I mean sure, but I would think that specific reason would take a toll on the game and brand as a whole. I'm talking about CTGP specifically here.

There are different reasons as to why this is happening -- why is it getting less popular as time passes? One of the reasons are that we are getting older (as implied on this thread) because the older we get, the busier we get and we slowly care to play the game. Sometimes it's hard to have it in your schedule when you have school, college, job or even have to study which gives you less free time to play Mario Kart Wii. I haven't touched MKW for a while now because my interest has kind of died for the game because I'm a bit lazy every time I'm back from my job but that's normal lol.

Another reason is that the game is really old (the same thing goes with our age, we get older we get busier), the game is more than 5 years old and when Nintendo WFC shut down it also killed people's activity. Some are still unaware there is a way to still play MKW but not everyone is able to hack their Wii to get CTGP/get Wiimmfi. I enjoyed playing the game a lot when Nintendo WFC was still there because every worldwide was nearly full (it was annoying sometimes lol) and when your friends join in it made it way more fun. You had many different types of worldwide: people who aren't skilled, people who are skilled, hackers etc. Every time you joined a worldwide, you meet new people and you'll eventually make new friends. But enough about that. CTGP has a lot of custom tracks and there are people who never played them; it's completely new for them. CTGP is big, many people were hyped to play it for the first time, but people eventually stop playing it, and some will even consider stop playing the game. I don't know how many people still play it, but you shouldn't expect CTGP to be very popular in the future because the game itself is very old and the fact that people still play it is awesome but it has become a little different since Nintendo WFC shut down.

People from Wiimmfi are mostly focused on clan wars and playing without CTGP's and CTGP's are being let behind and people start to care less and such. -Atm lazy to write a long text with more reasons, maybe later- x]

That's certainly another good reason Val! :)

I think it's because less people play wiimfi. MKWii in general has lost its wow factor.

Definitely a contributing factor!

CTGP activity is actually pretty high. It's just that you need to wait some time when in a CTWW for more players to join. Although, once a well-known player joins a worldwide, about 30 people start playing and trying to find his/her WorldWide.

Cool! Good to know. :)
